Welcome
zen.org.au is a non-profit Zen Buddhist organization based in Melbourne, Australia.
Our founding mission is to offer practical and spiritual support to individuals and the local community in ways expressive of Zen Buddhism:
"Not founded on words or tradition, pointing directly to the mind, and seeing our nature."

As our first and main project, we operate the Melbourne Zen Hospice.
The Melbourne Zen Hospice provides free home support and companionship to persons of any age and background living with an advanced life-limiting illness, and to their carers and family members living with them, anywhere across inner suburban Melbourne.
Our work is dedicated to providing practical and spiritual support that is highly personalized, dependable, and complementary with other palliative care and medical services.
We do what we do not as something unique or special, but simply to engage openly and compassionately and contribute in small ways to the level of wellbeing of those who contact us and whom we visit.

And the Buddha said:
"Even if I were to live on, our coming together would have to end.
All things in the world are impermanent ...
Do not be troubled, for this is the nature of life!"
from the Parinirvana Sutra, the Buddha's final teaching
The Melbourne Zen Hospice is now accepting new patient referrals.
If you are interested in making a referral, please read further about what we offer and whom we can help.

News
- We have recently received endorsement from the Australian Taxation Office as a Public Benevolent Institution (PBI) and Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR). This means that donations to the Melbourne Zen Hospice are now fully tax deductible (within Australia). If you would like to support our work by making a donation, you can do so here.
- A new volunteer training program is currently being planned for the second half of this year. If you live in Melbourne and feel that you may be interested in becoming a volunteer for the Melbourne Zen Hospice, you are welcome to register your interest here. (For those who have already done so, there is no need to do it again). We will contact all applicants with dates and details once they become available.
- Learning not to fear death? A recent Palliative Care conference in Edmonton, Canada, featured this as its discussion topic. You can read Carter Haydu's report online at www.buddhistchannel.tv here.
- As some of you will have noticed, the rollout of our newsletter/'blog' has been delayed, but it will happen and hopefully become a forum for the open sharing of views, experiences, and suggestions. Should you have any specific suggestions, questions, or feedback regarding the Melbourne Zen Hospice or zen.org.au, please also always feel free to contact us.
Thank you for visiting our site.
